The RepresentUs - Australia - Movement supports the value of immigration to our families, communities and nation. However, such a policy should be weighted by a proper regard for it being sustainable for our communities, our economy and our environment. The other underlying principles that should inform Australia's immigration policy is that it is humane, compassionate, accessible, fair, merit-based, evidence based, timely and efficient. This means that:
All asylum seekers will have rights in accordance with international agreements that Australia is signatory to
Processing of asylum seekers will happen as close as possible to the source, i.e. preferably before they embark on long and dangerous ocean journeys however if ever asylum seekers reach Australian waters they will be brought to the mainland for timely processing
Human rights in all refugee processing centres will be guaranteed and all existing internees relocated to mainland Australia for timely processing
Family reunion and married couples and children will all have affordable and expedited applications for permanent residency
All skills based and business migrants will be required to demonstrate and respond to a national interest and merit based approval process
Wealth, ethnic or cultural background or other characteristics should not inform any aspect of Australian immigration policy
There is no place in immigration to Australia in any class of visa if that is achieved through any type of political or economic corruption
