All citizens and permanent residents will be provided with housing if they are unable to afford and secure it for themselves, i.e. a housing guarantee:
There will be well resourcedĀ and appropriately tailoredĀ support for people who are at risk of becoming homeless
Negative gearing will be eliminated for any new purchases of property. The feasibility and impact of eliminating negative gearing for existing houses will be reviewed
Social home ownership programs will be supported and broadened
Social housing will be re-imagined:
Families that are vulnerable to inter-generational poverty will be eligible for zero interest loans to purchase their own homes
Repayments will be a fixed and manageable portion of their income (whatever the source of income)
The loans will be long term and can be rolled over
