The RepresentUs - Australia movement believes that it is in Australia's interest to commit to fair and sustainable trading relationships rather than free trade agreements that only benefit a tiny percentage of our population. This is the starting position for the RepresentUs - Australia's attitude towards free trade. In addition, the RepresentUs - Australia movement is committed to advocating the following key points in relation to trading relationships:
Review all trade agreements as to the net costs/benefits for Australia as a whole
Review all trade agreements with the purpose of addressing any unlevel 'playing field' between other signatories to that trade agreement and the terms and conditions of employment of their workers relative to Australian workers in the same industry or industries
If an agreement is found to have net negative benefits for Australia a further assessment will be made as to the feasibility and viability of exiting from the agreement or limiting the damage in some other way
No future agreements (if any) will include Investor State Dispute Settlement (ISDS) clauses
All existing trade agreements that undermine Australia's sovereignty in any shape or form will be renegotiated where possible and cancelled if a satisfactory agreement is not possible
The treaty-making process for any future agreements will be completely transparent throughout to allow consideration by all affected people and groups, and early identification of potential unintended consequences
Where it is deemed necessary our Common Wealth government and Parliament will initiate a referendum to resolve any potentially controversial trade agreement issues by asking for the approval of a majority of Australians in a majority of the Australian jurisdictions
